We have, probably quite stupidly, decided to run 10 miles (even typing it is making me feel tired...!) by taking part in The Great South Run in Portsmouth in October. We will be running in memory of our precious brother and friend Ian. All the money we make will go to the mental health charity Mind, which has been our chosen charity and meant so much to us, ever since Ian died by suicide in September 2011.

Keeping fit and healthy was an important aspect of Ian's life and his physical wellbeing was central to his emotional wellbeing. He loved walking, cycling, and going to the gym. He had never been much of a runner so I'm sure he would be proud of us all - and agree that we are all quite stupid - for undertaking this challenge.

Mental health issues are still taboo in society. Your donations to Mind will not only give us an amazing incentive while we're training and running, but will also act as recognition of the importance of the work the charity does in trying to encourage openness and realism about mental health issues, and in providing education and information to tackle the stigma and taboo.
