JESSIE'S RIDE 2018 - LONDON TO AMSTERDAM MAY 30TH -3RD JUNE
The grief and absence of a loved one never really eases or ends. Our journey without Jessica is in its 5th year and there will never come a time when I will not think about who my daughter would be, what she would look like, and how she would be woven into the tapestry of our family.
Over the years the energy and motivation of those who have committed towards arranging and completing challenges and events alongside the generosity of all those that have given in sponsorship has filled me with a deep gratitude and pride. Despite our world being so less bright without Jessica, her legacy in her name strives to raise awareness, challenge stigma and enable those who are living with enduring mental health challenges to find a voice. Lives matter; my childs life mattered, unless we speak we cannot hope to change outcomes. Mind works at local levels and also uses its expertise to lobby at policy level to change outcomes in a ever increasing climate of rationing of services.
Jessie's Ride coincides with what would have been her 30th Birthday. Our 'peleton' of intrepid cyclists are signing up and committing themselves to an amazing challenge and we are growing in numbers:- family and close friends, jessie's friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and many other amazing and wonderful people committed to making a difference.
In addition to the enormity of the challenge all the riders have pledged to raise £1000.00 each, so I am going to do my bit to support these wonderful guys and am setting up this page to raise funds through specific events over the next months with the aim of what ever is raised being divided equally between each rider. In the next month each rider will be invited to set up their own page and a number will be doing it here; so please visit and meet these riders who will talk about their motivation and links with Mind, Jessica or the family.
I am looking at an online auction in the new year,as well as other events in the months leading up to the challenge. I truly would so love to be able to participate in the Ride but I will be there at the end with others to celebrate the achievement of Jessies' Riders....
Thank you for reading this short novel my friends,
