My sister, Debra suffered with mental illness for many years and it wasnt until her early twenties that I became aware of her suffering. Despite this my sister worked, both in employment and as a volunteer. When she was not helping others in her working life, she enjoyed attending classes at college, to learn new skills which could help her career as well as to improve her cooking skills ! Debra was a great sister, she was so kind and considerate, she was also very wise and a good friend. Sadly, my sister died aged 39 years in July 2012. I do not think I will ever understand the difficulties she faced each day, all I know now is that I miss her. I am raising funds for MIND as Debra worked as a volunteer for them in Manchester and I wish to support their good work.

I think most people know of someone who may have been affected by mental health problems through their life and the work of charities such as MIND ensures that everyone can access support. MIND infoline answers around 700 calls a week from people who need information and support. Every week over 100 people in the UK take their own life. With the aid of MIND more people will get the help they need.

I have signed up to The 10.000 Steps Challenge. The aim is walk, run, swim or cycle to achieve 10,000 steps per day over a six week period...which is the equivalent of 200 miles. The challenge commences 28th January 2013.
